Oops. Turns out, grad school + part time work keeps you pretty busy. 😉

Earlier this week, I took the plunge and made my closet into a 40 piece capsule. Yikes! The basic premise behind a capsule closet is having less pieces of clothing, and absolutely LOVING every one of those pieces. Before you even read this post, you should head over to Unfancy and read up. Caroline is the guru!

I decided to try a capsule closet because I was finding myself going to Loft/Old Navy/Target every time they had a sale and buying something just because it was cheap. This (of course) never satisfied me and honestly left me with a closet full of clothes that I didn’t really love.

I started by taking every single clothing item out of my closet and separating them into three piles: love it, maybe, and no way. I put the ‘love its’ back in the closet, boxed up the ‘maybes’, and took pictures of the ‘no ways’ to try and sell them on Poshmark (with some success, BTW). PS my sweet friend Jennah did 90% of the work in this whole gig (folding, taking pictures, making decisions, etc.). She’s cute, here’s her Instagram: jmariekearney.

We ended up putting ~90 pieces in the ‘no’ pile and ~35 into the ‘maybe’ box. We then hashed out which ‘love its’ should go into the capsule, and which had to stand by in the ‘maybe’ box for another season. While choosing the capsule pieces, we mixed and matched different tops to bottoms to be sure every piece was versatile.

Here’s what we ended up with:

Dresses: 5

Pants: 5

Shorts: 4

Cardis: 2

Short Sleeved Tops: 12

Long Sleeved Tops: 5

Camis: 1

Accessories: 1

Shoes: 6

Now here’s the kicker.
